How is Zendesk driving climate action?

Zendesk, a leading customer experience company, believes its responsibility extends beyond its customers and stakeholders to the broader global community and environment. Taking action on this belief, the company has set ambitious goals to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Since 2022, Zendesk has been achieving carbon neutrality on both their products and employee travel. Then, in 2024, they set even more ambitious goals with SBTi-approved targets, continuously implementing decarbonization efforts at a speed and scale that aligns with a 1.5°C future.

How does nature fit into Zendesk’s climate strategy?

Zendesk recognizes the crucial role that nature-based solutions play in mitigating climate change and reaching global net zero.

Shengyuan Su, Sustainability Director at Zendesk, explained, “Natural ecosystems are so powerful – they have a massive potential to sequester carbon and mitigate climate change while also providing critical tools for climate adaptation.”

When it comes to their climate strategy, Zendesk purchases a diverse portfolio of carbon credits to offset the remaining emissions associated with their products and employee travel. As a member of Frontier, Zendesk is working to accelerate engineering-focused carbon removal technologies through forward purchase agreements while simultaneously investing in high-integrity nature-based projects today.

Why Pachama?

Zendesk’s partnership with Pachama is driven by its commitment to high-quality carbon credits. “We are most excited about Pachama’s mission to leverage AI and remote sensing to measure the carbon stored in forests and monitor forest growth over time,” said Su. “These technological capabilities enable more precise measurements and ensure integrity, quality, and true impact of nature-based carbon credits.”

By supporting projects like Delta Mangroves and Manoa through Pachama, Zendesk has contributed to protecting endangered forests, revitalizing natural ecosystems, and planting new trees.

Pachama’s technology-driven due diligence has enabled Zendesk to confidently invest in carbon projects to meet its sustainability goals.

“Our partnership with Pachama not only helped us fulfill our climate commitments but also boosted our confidence to continue supporting nature-based carbon projects in a meaningful and scalable way,” said Su.
