    The role:
    We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team and lead the development of our core platform, which provides impactful tools and services to developers and businesses committed to combating climate change. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining systems that powering our platforms and their AI and remote sensing insights. Your work will enable our customers to identify and support high-quality nature-based projects, driving positive environmental impact.

    You'll be working alongside a team of sustainability experts, forest scientists, machine learning experts, designers, and engineers to understand stakeholder needs and deliver high-quality, delightful products. The products you’ll be creating will touch a wide range of audiences in the carbon credit and forest carbon project space from the environmentally responsible corporations and individuals to the forest projects themselves.

    We're looking for engineers who find joy in the craft of building and want to make an impact. Engineers who push forward initiatives by asking great questions, cutting through ambiguity, and organizing to win. Engineers who are relentlessly detail-oriented, methodical in their approach to understanding trade-offs, place the highest emphasis on building simply, and building quickly.

    Location:
    This role is remote. However, being within 3 hours of Pacific time is preferred for this role given cross-functional communication responsibilities.

    We are looking for a Staff Data Engineer to lead the development of cutting-edge data systems backing our products for our mission to restore and protect the planet's forests. As a leader on the DMRV (Digital measurement, reporting, and verification) team, you will build, scale and deploy systems for ingesting, storing and computing the data powering our AI and Remote Sensing insights and are responsible for delivering those data insights to our customers to enable them to identify and originate the highest quality nature-based projects.
    A typical day includes collaborating across engineering and science teams to understand new dataset ingest pathways for model or algorithm features, writing code to support efficient compute and scalable transformation and algorithms to unlock insights over project data, designing systems for easy data access and experimentation pathways, pair coding with other engineers to raise the standards and bar on our technical work, and roadmapping core improvements to our data, compute or measurement stack.

  • Forest Carbon Science Manager

    Science / Full-time

    Pachama is looking for a Forest Carbon Science Manager to direct the team of forest and spatial scientists who evaluate, design, and provide tools for Pachama’s portfolio of forest carbon projects. The Forest Carbon Science Manager is responsible for defining standards, methods, and processes to implement Pachama’s Quality Standard, which is used to assess the climate, social, and ecological integrity of NBS projects issuing credits for the Voluntary Carbon Market. 

    The Manager will also conduct spatial assessments for carbon projects that use Pachama’s remote sensing tools and analytics. This position reports to the VP of Science. You would be excited about this role if you love the idea of moving fast with a high degree of independence in a growing start-up. You have 7+ years of experience using science for forest conservation, restoration, and management, and expertise in using remote sensing and geospatial data to derive insights about forest dynamics. You understand carbon accounting and are familiar with the major components of the Voluntary Carbon Market.

    You love to problem solve and are comfortable leading cross-functional efforts that require project management, strategic planning, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You enjoy communicating with others and are excited to speak to findings with a variety of team members.


    Location: This role is remote within North American time zones only. 


  • Forest Carbon Scientist

You have 5+ years of experience in forest conservation,  restoration, or management and have experience using remote sensing techniques and other geospatial data to analyze forest and land use changes. You understand carbon accounting and are familiar with the major components of the Voluntary Carbon Market. You love to problem solve and are comfortable leading cross-functional efforts that require project management, strategic planning, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
