Why it matters
Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) must be secured in advance of activities that could affect the territories, resources, livelihoods, food security, or cultural heritage of indigenous people and other customary rights-holders.

Proximity to indigenous people can be viewed as positive (high potential for positive community benefits) or higher risk (additional complexity with FPIC requirements), depending on the buyer’s perspective.

We run a spatial analysis to measure the distance from the project area to the nearest IPLC settlement.
