PACHAMA INSIGHTS

Native Species

Assess the number and percentage of native species that will be planted as part of project activities.

  • Why it matters

Forest stands with a more diverse species mix are more likely to be resilient to disturbances and generally result in more ecosystem benefits than monoculture stands or those with very few species. More diverse forests can also create biodiversity benefits through increased species richness and habitat diversity.

  • Pachama’s evaluation approach

We review the planted species list to quantify the native species diversity of the project. We confirm the status of each species as native or non-native using global and country-specific databases.
